Last Sunday Mary and I headed to Wisconsin to visit our sister Sherry. I have always loved to go there because it is so beautiful where they live, Black Earth Wisconsin. Yes, they have black earth just like we do in Davenport. Boy, do I ever love black earth compared to Georgia red clay! My brother in law Stuart, has a retail greenhouse business in his back yard. I am going to blog about this later because I have so much to say about it and don't have the time right now because, I have been so busy this week! Last Saturday my neighbor that doesn't live next door anymore because they have moved, asked me to have a garage sale this weekend to sell what is left in the house because the neighborhood was going to have the annual garage sale. I was a little worried about this because I would only have three days to price and I have to have a price tag on every single thing. There was a lot. It didn't look like it in the empty house but there was still a lot.
Last night I went to Craigslist to post the sale and saw the neighborhood sale was today 4pm to 8pm. What kind of hours are those? I had never heard of such a thing. My neighbor, Terre and I decided we would not wait until 4pm and started our sale at 8am with just a Craigslist add and two signs. We had a very busy day and made a lot of money. There wasn't much priced over $1 and people were buying things up like crazy.
I usually don't allow the owners of the items help with the sales they hire me for but, it felt right for Terre to be there. She had a story for everything that sold and the customers really enjoyed the story behind what they were buying. She also was surprised about things she didn't even know she owned. Those were usually her husband's items he had in the garage for years.
We met some very interesting people today. The most interesting customer had been in Chernobyl with his family when that disaster happened. He told us about all the ailments they encountered. That is the best part of a garage sale. Meeting all the different people.
Tomorrow is 1/2 price day and can't wait to sell everything!!
