Our Basement

It all started when we decided to get new flooring for our basement. The same carpet had been there since 1993.   We made this decision over a year ago.  We pulled up the carpet and bought the new flooring but then we decided it would be a good time to have a bathroom put in downstairs.  We already had a toilet and vanity and it was plumbed for a shower, but we only had three walls.

Before we pulled up the carpet, we had to move everything off to the sides so we had piles of our stuff  all around the basement.  That is why there is a pile of treasures behind this eventful moment.

We had to rent a truck to haul all of the flooring to the house.

We met with our contractor in May 2022 and discussed what we wanted for the bathroom. During our discussion, it was decided we would hire him to put in the new flooring as well. We had planned to do it ourselves but I was a little anxious about that because of the large area. I felt relieved we wouldn't have to deal with that.  We were on his schedule for October.  He owns a very busy company and this type of work is winter work.  The date was then pushed back until November and we hoped it would be done by Christmas. They finally started February 2023.

When putting the flooring in, we had to move piles of stuff from one side of the basement to the other.  I am not sure how many times we moved piles.

Mike had to go out of town for three nights and was told things wouldn't need to be moved while he was gone.  One of those days we had a pretty good snow storm and as the construction guys were leaving, they told me everything needed to be away from the walls by the next day.  WHAT??

So, after shoveling ours and our neighbor's sidewalks and driveways.....

I had to move piles of stuff.  All by myself!!!

When I was done, it was chaos.  Time for another garage sale!

Things are moving along nicely and everything should be done in a couple of weeks.

When it is all completed, I will have before and after photos.

Molly's Birthday

Molly just had a birthday!!  It was in the middle of the week so we planned to take her out to eat on the Saturday after her birthday.  We picked up Janelle Saturday morning and then headed to Molly and Adrien's house.  When we got there, Molly was surprised to see some strange cake decorating. These photos were taken after she blew the candles out.

I baked her strawberry cake the night before.  After I took it out of the oven, I went to bed.  In the morning, I found where a cat had taken one step into the cake.  The only thing I could think  to do was to cut a hole around the pawprint so that we could still enjoy the cake.  Not sure which cat it was.

Before cake eating, we were excited to go to a restaurant Molly had been to and she was excited for all of us to try.  We entered and was told the wait would be 2.5 hours.  On to plan B which was a phone call to another restaurant. They had a 4.5 hour wait.  We were worried going out to eat was not going to happen.  We decided to try one last place down the road and was told it would be a 1/2  hour wait.  We decided to wait and we were seated within 10 to 15 minutes.

Mike added the candles and had them stretched out all over the cake so it would be hard to blow them out.  We were all surprised she blew them all out in one try!
Her wish should come true!

Christmas and New Year 2022

Above is a photo of Sammy with his new bowtie, and Binx is below with his. The boys dressed up for Christmas

I haven't written in many months and I should have because we had such a wonderful Christmas. Maggie drove up from Athens, Georgia and was able to spend a few days with us before Christmas. She was able to help us with last minute things and we even had time to get our hair cut.  First time for Maggie in forever. Our stylist in Athens retired and Maggie didn't know who to go to.  I suggested she go to my stylist I found here in Davenport. She was very happy with the results.

We went to Molly and Adrien's for Christmas and had fun cooking and opening presents.

Chase flew in the day after Christmas and then we all headed back to Davenport to spend the rest of our holiday vacation days.  We were all looking forward to a Seven Dust concert on the 29th.  We rented a van and bought a ticket for our neighbor so he could be our designated driver for the night.  The rest of us got in free because Chase plays in a band with the Seven Dust bass player. It was a head banging good time!

We were able to go into the Green Room after the concert to hang out with Chase's friend. We had a good time.

The next thing on the agenda was to watch the Championship football game on New Years Eve, Georgia against TCU. After Georgia won, we had to wait an hour before midnight to celebrate the New Year.  When midnight struck, we all started to celebrate when I heard Maggie say something like...is it happening now? I looked over to see this.

I yelled for everyone to get their phones out and take pictures!  Pay no attention to the pile of treasures in the background. I will explain that in a later post.  We knew this would eventually happen but we had no idea it would be at this moment.  We all had watery eyes.

They have been dating since middle school and this photo is from the day they graduated middle school.

One diamond is my mom's and the other is Chase's mom's diamond.  So, now on to wedding planning. Not date set yet.

Happy New Year!!
